Throughout
my collegiate career I have earned 11 NCAA All-American honors. However my college
career has left me feeling as though there is unfinished business. During my
junior year I was ready to achieve success in the 200m at the NCAA national
track meet. I ran the preliminaries and semifinals with the fastest time going
into the finals. Then before the finals I became very ill and was
hospitalized. I was released from the hospital and participated in the race but
I was still quite weak. I had defeated the first and second place finishers at
the regional track meet two weeks prior.
As a
senior my season was quite successful until the NCAA national track meet I
became quite ill again. I feel that I would have placed in top three at both
meets but my illness, prevented me from performing. At the USC Championships I
ran the 200m, but a strain in my hamstring left me feeling quite disappointed.
Track
athletes are known to be resilient, I am quite proud to be a track athlete and
I know track has made me very driven. I am extremely driven to continue a
career in track and field. My dream is to become an Olympian. I began my track
career in the second grade running for Carol City Park in Miami, FL. Throughout
middle and high schools I played basketball and ran track, every year I could
not wait for basketball season to end, because I was so eager to begin track
season.
During
high school I ran the 100m, 200m and 400m and I was a National champion in the
4x400m relay at the Adidas Invitational.
As a freshman in college I ran (51.65) in the 400m. I won
the 400m (52.17) and 200m (23.17) in the Big East Championships. As a junior I
was Acc champion in the 400m (52.08) and 200m (23.06), I won the East Regional
2005 in the 200m (22.74) and was ranked #2 in the Nation. My senior year 2006,
I went on the retain my ACC championships in the 400m (51.94) and 200m (23.14),
and was a member of the record breaking 4x400m relay team at this past season's
Texas and Penn Relays
